Our story
A legacy, years in the making
Ned’s Landing is named after Ned Wilmer, an explorer who found PEI early in his life. Ned was an American pediatrician who visited Prince Edward Island in the late 1960s on a holiday with his wife and six children. By the end of the trip throughout the Maritimes, they had purchased an old farm a short five-minute drive from Spry Point. And so began a lifelong love affair with Prince Edward Island, which carried on to the next generations.
Ned’s son David, on an Island holiday some twenty years later went to see a derelict property that was on the market; by the end of the holiday, he had purchased a property that after a gut and rehab became The Inn at Bay Fortune. Another decade passed and the opportunity to purchase “The Ark” at Spry Point came to be and David built The Inn at Spry Point. The Inn at Spry Point was the last project that Ned worked with David on - whilst a pediatrician by profession, Ned was an architect and interior designer by passion. Ned Wilmer is the inspiration for Ned’s Landing at Spry Point.
Most recently David has taken a building that was previously used for staff accommodations and has completed a series of upgrades creating a Hostel/Cottage with five bedrooms and two and one half shared bathrooms. Moving the Garland six burner double oven from the Inn into the kitchen at The Barn at Spry Point. The Barn is ideal for people doing the Island Walk, cycling, or going to or coming from Isle de la Madeleine.
